VENEZUELA: MIR ITALIA DENOUNCES THE IMPERIALIST AGGRESSION OF THE UNITED STATES
PRESS RELEASE – JAN. 3, 2026
MIR Italia expresses its outrage at the illegitimate and violent military aggression on Venezuelan territory by the US armed forces, which bombed part of its capital, causing heavy damage and civilian casualties, and captured and transferred President Nicolas Maduro and his wife to the USA.
The flagrant violation of international law by the autocratically led government of President Trump is blatant and indefensible, constituting yet another attack on the sovereignty of that country, paradoxically in the name of democracy, and nullifying the most basic respect for the rules that should guarantee the legitimacy of relations between states.
“The MIR Italia – which for decades has been a bearer and disseminator of values such as peace, active nonviolence, and disarmament – said its president, Ermete Ferraro – declares its concern about the consequences of this imperialist act and denounces the danger and contagiousness of arrogant and warmongering attitudes, which could cause further complications in the already delicate situation in Latin America. Aggressive policies and armed solutions are those that MIR has always fought against, supporting disarmament policies, nonviolent means of defense, recourse to supranational institutions, and diplomatic dialogue in situations of tension.”
According to the MIR, the Italian government should immediately and unequivocally condemn what is happening in Venezuela. It is clear who the aggressor is and – given that democracy is never exported with bombs – it is obvious that there are no real threats to the US that could even remotely justify the US armed raid.
“Ensuring the safety of our compatriots in that country,” Ferraro added, “is no substitute for a firm condemnation of what has happened and the indispensable call for respect for international law, once again violated by Donald Trump’s imperialist arrogance. If it is true that our Constitution rejects war as a solution to international disputes, in this case the military aggression against Venezuela must also be denounced because it is unjustified and unjustifiable.”
